Aliens Screech In Jubilation In Latest Clip For Independence Day: Resurgence

Of all the cast returning for next month's Independence Day: Resurgence - Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum but, crucially, not Will Smith - Brent Spiner's crazy, straw-haired scientist Dr. Okun hasn't been given an awful lot of screen time across the sequel's appropriately colossal marketing campaign.

Of all the cast returning for next month’s Independence Day: Resurgence – Bill Pullman, Jeff Goldblum but, crucially, not Will Smith – Brent Spiner’s crazy, straw-haired scientist Dr. Okun hasn’t been given an awful lot of screen time across the sequel’s appropriately colossal marketing campaign.

And though we imagine Okun will carve out a similarly small part in Roland Emmerich’s long-awaited blockbuster, a new clip emerging today ushers his bug-eyed hippie into the limelight in eerie fashion.

Housed up in what looks to be home base for the Earth Space Defense program, Okun gives his strangely educated opinion on the erratic aliens, noting that they’re not screeching in agony or pain; instead, they’re celebrating in the knowledge that their species is about to enact its revenge twenty years after the fact.

Flanking Pullman, Goldblum and Spiner in the Resurgence cast list are Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Maika Monroe and Sela Ward, along with Jessie Usher and Liam Hemsworth, who take the fight to the extra-terrestrials as two pilots under the ESD’s command.

Independence Day: Resurgence crashes down into theaters on June 24 – taking out practically every landmark in sight while doing so.

We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.
