With Snow White quickly turning into one of the hottest topics around Hollywood, several projects revolving around the classic character are currently underway. One of which is Snow White and the Huntsman, a film that is boasting a cast consisting of Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth. While the three major roles have been filled by the aforementioned actors, up until now, none of the dwarves had been cast.
That all changes today though as THR tells us that Ian McShane has been cast as the leader of the dwarves. Last seen in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, McShane will play Caesar in the upcoming “revisionist take” on the classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale. With a start date set for August, it’s probably a good bet that it won’t be too long before we hear more on who will be paying the other dwarves.
Rupert Sanders will be making his feature debut here, working on a screenplay by Hossein Amini and Evan Daugherty. McShane’s Caesar is described as “the eldest, with the longest beard” and for those wondering, yes they will indeed be using effects to make the dwarves look small.
For those who watched HBO’s Deadwood, you know how powerful of an actor Ian McShane is. He may not be a household name but he gives consistently strong performances and is quite frankly, one of the best in the business. While I can’t exactly see him playing a dwarf, it certainly is an interesting role for the actor.
Honestly, I’m not terribly excited about any of the Snow White films currently in production but McShane’s involvement in this one does have me curious. I’ll reserve my judgement until I see some footage but this could turn out to be something worthy of your attention.
