Owners of the Xbox One and Fallout 4 now have the ability to download mods directly to their console and play them, Bethesda has announced via Twitter. Players will need to update their game with the latest title update, whereupon they’ll be able to download whatever mods take their fancy straight from the main menu.

For what is traditionally a PC-only feature, bringing mods to consoles is something almost unheard of, and a feature that Bethesda says they’ve always wanted to achieve eventually.
Starting today, we are excited to deliver on something we’ve wanted to do for a very long time – bring Mods to a console audience. With the latest title update for Fallout 4, Xbox One gamers are now able to browse Mods on Bethesda.net and, more importantly, can directly download and play Mods within the game’s main menu.
For obvious reasons, it’s not possible to directly create your own mods from the comfort of your console, but you can download the Creation Kit software on a PC, craft them there then download them to the Xbox One.
Go and took a look at what’s on offer, you’ll no doubt come across mods ranging from that bizarre Thomas The Tank Engine reskin to more technical examples that improve upon the base systems of the game.
As more time passes and modders become more proficient at using Fallout 4‘s the Creation Kit, expect to see some fan-made content that rivals Bethesda’s own Far Harbor add-on in quality and scope.
