We’d been told to expect some new characters to join the team for the second season of The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow, and now we have our first major addition to the crew of the Waverider: animalistic DC superheroine, Vixen.

According to TV Insider’s sources, Vixen will be suiting up as a new series regular when the show returns for its sophomore season, but it won’t be actress Magalyn E.K. in the costume  – in fact, it won’t even be the Mari McCaabe character.

Apparently, Rip Hunter will use his time-bending abilities to recruit an older incarnation of Vixen, “who may or may not share some sort of historical tie to Miss McCabe.” This allows them to recast the role, but also leaves the door open for the highly in-demand E.K. to return once her workload lightens a little.

The actress will continue to voice Vixen on The CW Seed animated series of the same name and she also has a role in the upcoming sorority comedy Step Sisters to shoot, as well as several other potential big screen projects.

Legends of Tomorrow will return with Vixen in tow this Fall.
