Soon after Warner Bros. elected Ben Affleck as executive producer on Justice League, the studio began to ring the changes on its grand superhero ensemble piece.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Zack Snyder’s tentpole will seemingly be condensed into a single film, with an official logo heralding the start of production. Now, Affleck himself has weighed in on the relationship shared between his Bruce Wayne/Batman and The Flash, played on the big screen by Ezra Miller.

When quizzed about The Fastest Man Alive by Comic Book Resources, here’s what the actor-director had to share about the two wildly different personalities.

“That’s interesting. There’s an element of that to it. There’s a quality to really what Ezra [Miller] does that is young and fun and full of life, and excited about what they’re doing that’s so in contrast to who Batman is,” said Affleck. “There’s a little bit of that natural yin and yang to playing scenes with him. There’s not the ward aspect to it, but there’s a little bit of the mentor — which you’d probably ask Ezra and he’d be like, ‘[frick] that! He’s not my mentor!’ But I think there is a little bit. And it’s fun to play, definitely.”

What’s more, considering the age gap between Warner’s two costumed heroes, it seems safe to assume that Justice League will big up Batman’s mentor role not just in the Caped Crusader’s relationship with Barry Allen, but also the remaining members of DC’s supergroup.

Speaking of which, CBM has unearthed a report claiming that Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight will don the iconic white lenses. Details remain thin on the ground on that one, but at the very least, it would seem seem the actor is gunning to inject a little more “sardonic humor” into his portrayal of the DC icon.

“He’s a little more of a man on a mission this time. As opposed to being so full of anger because of what happened at the Black Zero Event. That kind of rage that possessed him. And now he’s on a mission to get this group together. To constitute this League. But, more of his, that sort of Bruce Wayne, wry, ironic gallows humor comes out. He’s not like a ‘ha ha’ jokey, but that sort of stuff comes out a little bit. A bit of his, sort of, darker humor stuff is present. There’s definitely room for more humor.”

Justice League is currently set for a release in 2017.
