With about one month to go until the First Avenger makes his way into theatres, Paramount has released the final trailer for the upcoming Captain America film. With Thor not being as good as I expected and Green Lantern just flat out tanking, I have high hopes for Captain America: The First Avenger. X-Men: First Class was great but that’s the only superhero film that I’ve been truly impressed with this summer. I’m kind of hoping that Captain America will redeem what has otherwise been a summer of rather disappointing flicks.
I’ve liked what I’ve seen from film ever since we saw the first footage and I’m really hoping that it’s on par with, if not better, than X-Men: First Class. A lot of the things I didn’t like with Green Lantern and Thor stemmed from issues with the fantasy/magical elements, the stuff that wasn’t really Earth related. With Captain America: The First Avenger, there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of that, which is one reason why my hopes are raised.
Another reason that this one has me excited is because of the cast. Admittedly, Thor had a pretty solid cast but I think Captain America: The First Avenger may have a slightly better one. With names like Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci and Dominic Cooper, there is some pretty strong talent here.
All in all, I’m just hoping that this one doesn’t disappoint and that we get something similar in quality to X-Men: First Class, or even the original Iron Man for that matter.
Directed by Joe Johnston, the film stars Chris Evans as the First Avenger. It will hit theatres on July 22nd.
“Captain America: The First Avenger” will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving.)
