Game Of Thrones Cast Weigh In On Season 6’s Explosive Finale

HBO unleashed “The Winds of Winter” on Sunday, June 26 and boy, it proved to be a fantastic conclusion to what has been a gripping season of Game of Thrones.

Keeping up tradition, the network has already rolled out featurettes that take you inside the season finale but now, Entertainment Weekly has quizzed both Natalie Dormer and Emilia Clarke about season 6’s curtain call, along with their own predictions for what’s in store for season 7 and beyond.

Because the Internet is dark and full of spoilers, we’ve included Dormer and Clarke’s responses after the jump. So, if you’ve yet to revel in “The Winds of Winter,” avert thy eyes!

Still with us? First up, Natalie Dormer reflected on Margaery’s arc throughout season 6, right up until the point where she bites the bullet in King’s Landing.

“It’s truly it’s own unique moment to tie up what’s been a unique storyline about what’s happened in King’s Landing over the course of season 6. I thought it was an inspired choice. And it’s really interesting that I am given a moment of some vindication at the very end, which was the perfect way for Margaery to leave the show. She’s given a platform to say that she was right, as she always is. But because the power was taken from her, she couldn’t do anything about it.”

From one highborn to the next, EW then asked Emilia Clarke about the fate of Daenerys Targaryen, and how things stand for the Mother of Dragons now that she’s bound for Westeros armed with a massive army and an unflinching sense of resilience to match.

“If we talk about this: basically, I’ve got ships, I’ve got manpower, I’ve got dragons that breath fire, and I apparently cannot be killed. I don’t even have an attractive man who wants to take his shirt off anywhere near me now, so there are no distractions … The only thing missing is Jorah. He’s gotta come back. I said I can’t rule the Seven Kingdoms without him … But as with Game of Thrones, you know when your character is looking good, that’s when you know you’re not safe. Because [the writers are] all, ‘Oh, do you like her? We’ll kill her!’”

Game of Thrones season 6 capped off its arresting run with “The Winds of Winter” on Sunday. HBO currently has plans for season 7 as well, which will be markedly shorter than seasons gone by.
