Coming off its season 2 renewal, AMC has released new sneak peek from this Sunday’s episode of Preacher, titled “Sundowner.” In it, Cassidy confronts Tulip about their dalliance in the last episode and is nearly caught by Jesse, but winds up evading his “best mate” by hiding behind the door.

Though the show has incorporated elements into its first few episodes that didn’t occur until later on in the source material (Odin Quincannon etc), it’s still very surprising that Seth Rogen and co. have decided to tackle the Jesse/Tulip/Cassidy love triangle this early on.

In Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s comic series, Cass does harbour desires for Jesse’s girl, but doesn’t act on them until they both believe that the Texan hardman has met his end. The messed up way in which he goes about coercing Tulip into sleeping with him is what ultimately brings everything to a head between the former friends, and sets up a fateful confrontation in the final volume, “Alamo.”

Will the show let things play out that way this season, or are they just setting up some mistrust that will eventually lead to conflict further down the line? Tune in to the latest episode of Preacher on Sunday for a better idea of how it will all go down.
