Two years ago, Steven S. DeKnight blew the doors open to Hell’s Kitchen with an excellent inaugural season to Daredevil. It was the only Netflix and Marvel show to make its bow in 2014, followed up by the arrival of Jessica Jones in 2015. Both parties will soon execute its one-two punch of Daredevil season 2 and Luke Cage for 2016 but looking further afield, Netflix is aiming to accelerate its output.

While he doesn’t foresee a scenario where subscribers are treated to five shows per year – “I doubt that we could produce at the quality that they produce at that speed” – chief content officer Ted Sarandos revealed to IGN that Netflix wants to ensure that there is less downtime between each new season.

“We’re gonna try to make them quicker so we can get less downtime between them. Luke Cage [is up next] and then Iron Fist and then Defenders, and then we’ll start slotting the second and third seasons of the shows that are upcoming, haven’t gone beyond that yet.”

As Marvel’s small-screen universe begins to ramp up the stakes, particularly in the build up to The Defenders series, it’s only natural that both studios want to get content out as quickly as possible. So long as that doesn’t compromise quality, that’s something we can fully get behind, but it isn’t likely to take into affect until both Luke Cage and Iron Fist are out in the ether.

Speaking of The Defenders, when quizzed about the possibility of Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle swinging by, Sarandos asked fans to “stay tuned.”

In related news, SDCC brought word of Matt Murdock’s return with a wonderfully stylish announcement teaser for Daredevil season 3.
