Last month, Times Square recently played host to what many assumed to be the first official banner for Transformers: The Last Knight, Paramount and Michael Bay’s blockbuster sequel that’s pegged for a primetime summer release in 2017.
Those photos that began to emerge online appeared to reveal Optimus Prime charging into battle, sword in hand, against a three-headed monstrosity. Or is it? Confirming the banner to be official, Paramount has today rolled out the high-res version, and it’s crammed full of exciting nuggets for fans of those robots in disguise.
First and foremost, whether it’s a remnant of the Age of Extinction or not, there’s a good chance that Optimus is about to dance with three individual dragons as opposed to one, Cerberus-like beastie. Beyond that, there’s also a tattered Decepticon flag in the foreground, not to mention a city skyline that seems to resemble San Francisco. Take that one with a grain of salt, of course.
But don’t be fooled into thinking that Transformers: The Last Knight will take place entirely on Earth, given there’s a space station looming overhead along with what appears to be Cybertron. Again, it’s a stretch, and until Paramount drops the first teaser trailer, we’ll reserve final judgement.
On board for Bay’s fifth entry into the effect-laden juggernaut are Tyrese Gibson, Josh Duhamel and Mark Wahlberg’s Cade Yeager. There are also roles for Isabela Moner and Anthony Hopkins. Switching from human to bot, Onslaught recently pulled in for The Last Knight, and he now joins Bumblebee, Barricade, Drift, the all-new Sqweeks, Megatron and, of course, Optimus Prime.
Transformers: The Last Knight is slated for theatrical release on June 23, 2017. Paramount is expected to go all-in with its flagship series over the next few years, with plans in place for new Transformers movies every year through 2019.
