Nintendo doesn’t have many games releasing this holiday season, as they work on making sure their next piece of hardware — the Nintendo NX — is a success, but they are filling the gaps by smartly repackaging old software instead.
The company has announced that eight games will be joining the Nintendo Selects line (essentially their budget-priced greatest hits) later this month, and a brand new New Nintendo 3DS bundle that launches August 26. That’s not all, though, as September will also see the release of five separate amiibo bundles.
The five Nintendo 3DS titles that will join the Nintendo Selects line-up on August 26, and will be priced at $19.99, are Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Tomodachi Life, nintendogs + cats: Golden Retriever & New Friends, and LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins. Three Wii U games are also joining the line-up, as Nintendo Land, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, and LEGO City Undercover will also be sold for less than an Andrew Jackson. These are some smart additions, as Animal Crossing and Tomodachi Life both have a lot of appeal to casual players.
If those prices seem appealing, but you don’t have a New Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo is hoping that gamers will pick up the Super Mario 3D Land Edition New Nintendo 3DS. This bundle, that releases on August 26, will cost $149.99 and include two Mario-themed faceplates, Super Mario 3D Land, and the console itself. Those wanting to take advantage of this deal (and it is a deal coming in at $50 less than previous New Nintendo 3DS bundles) will have to travel to either a Walmart or Target to buy it, as it’s exclusive to those two outlets.
Finally, Nintendo is bringing out five new Wii U game bundles that come with an amiibo figure for $39.99. Starting on September 9, Yoshi’s Woolly World will be getting two new bundles (one with a blue Yoshi, the other a red Yoshi), Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker will come with a Toad amiibo that unlocks a hide-and-seek challenge within the game, and Mario Party 10 will get bundles with Peach and Bowser.
This is a great chance for Nintendo owners to catch up on some of the first-party titles they may have missed out upon release, and a really smart decision by the company to bolster their otherwise struggling holiday line-up.
