If you’re experiencing a strange feeling of déjà vu while watching, that’s probably because you’ve seen this particular indie game in action before, although it would have been going by a different name. Originally called Hunger and planned to release digitally for PlayStation 4, Tarsier’s new partnership with Namco has resulted in the re-branding.

Discussing the premise of the title back in 2014, Tarsier said (via VideoGamer):

At its heart, Hunger is a simple idea. A young girl is trapped in a labyrinth full of monsters and wants to escape. It will be your job to help her do this. It’s a genre we’re calling ‘suspense-adventure’, on account of the fact that there will be plenty of both. Coupled with an unnerving ‘Dollhouse Perspective’, tactile controls, and characters with soft, dark centres, Hunger will take your hand and let it go at the worst possible moment!

Bandai Namco’s VP of marketing & digital Herve Hoerdt says that the new partnership with Tarsier is the next step in their “strategy to further strengthen the company portfolio with titles developed from all over the world.”

Little Nightmares symbolizes the evolution of our strategy to further strengthen the company portfolio with titles developed from all over the world. As we continue to explore new ways to experience our IPs, we couldn’t have found a better partner than Tarsier Studios to fulfil this vision and we’re extremely proud to show their incredible talent to the world by publishing their first in-house project.

While no gameplay footage of Little Nightmares has been released post-name change, see below for a gameplay montage released back in 2015 when the title was still called Hunger.

Bandai Namco has yet to give a release date for Little Nightmares or, for that matter, confirm which platforms it will be coming to, but more details will be revealed next week at Gamescom.
