Alison Pill Erases Line Between Fact And Fantasy In First Trailer For Zoom

Allison Pill flips reality on its head in the bizarre first trailer for metafictional comedy, Zoom.

Indulging in a daydream or letting your imagination run amok is something we can all relate to on a fairly intimate level – but what if those thoughts sprung into life, effectively blurring the line between fact and fantasy?

That’s a question posed by Zoom, Pedro Morelli’s imminent feature that’s pitched as a “fast-paced, pop-art inspired, multi-plot contemporary comedy.” That’s quite the mouthful, but nevertheless, Morelli’s metafictional romp has garnered praise following its run on the festival circuit, including last year’s TIFF.

Now closing in on a theatrical release, today brings forth Zoom‘s zany first trailer, introducing viewers to Alison Pill’s novelist and budding comic book artist who has unknowingly created a sentient character in Edward, and already we’re beginning to sense a refreshing mix of drama and heartfelt comedy based on the above teaser.

Zoom, also starring Gael García Bernal and Tyler Labine (Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil), is due to open across VOD and select theaters on September 2.

Zoom-poster

ZOOM is a fast-paced, pop-art inspired, multi-plot contemporary comedy. The film consists of three seemingly separate but ultimately interlinked storylines about a comic book artist, a novelist, and a film director. Each character lives in a separate world but authors a story about the life of another.

The comic book artist, Emma, works by day at an artificial love doll factory, and is hoping to undergo a secret cosmetic procedure. Emma’s comic tells the story of Edward, a cocky film director with a debilitating secret about his anatomy. The director, Edward, creates a film that features Michelle, an aspiring novelist who escapes to Brazil and abandons her former life as a model. Michelle, pens a novel that tells the tale of Emma, who works at an artificial love doll factory… And so it goes…
