Original story: Hideo Kojima, a developer often cited as the founding father of the Metal Gear franchise at Konami, was in town for Tokyo Game Show 2016 last week to promote his new creative venture, Death Stranding.

A PS4 exclusive hailing from the newly-independent Kojima Productions, it was here that Kojima-san revealed some piecemeal details regarding the embryonic title, which we now know will incorporate online elements into an open-world setting. Towards the end of the showcase, the topic of Metal Gear Survive, the first entry into Konami’s stealth juggernaut following Kojima’s departure, came to the fore.

As relayed by IGN, the esteemed game designer stated simply, “that’s nothing to do with me” before going on to question Survive‘s use of the undead.

“The Metal Gear games are about political fiction and espionage. Where do zombies fit in with that? If I had worked on that game, it would have mechs in it.”

Kojima isn’t the only one to call out Metal Gear Survive in the wake of its presentation at TGS 2016, with the debut gameplay demo attracting an overwhelming amount of dislikes on YouTube at the time of going to press. Whether that’s indicative of the vocal minority or not is something we’ll leave to you, but we do know Survive is a co-op based horror survival game at its core. It’ll be priced slightly below the standard $60 tier, too, with Konami noting that it’ll retail “somewhere in the vicinity” of Ground Zeroes at launch ($30).

Metal Gear Survive is in development for PS4, Xbox One and PC. It’ll launch sometime in 2017, but for now, you can share your own early impressions of the zombie-infested spinoff below.
