Pacific Rim 2 Adds Kong: Skull Island Actress Jing Tian

It wasn’t too long ago that Pacific Rim 2 was put on indefinite hold by Universal and Legendary Pictures, but the sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s divisive monsters vs. robots smash-em-up was thrown a lifeline when Legendary sold the rights to a Chinese conglomerate, and former Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight signed on to helm the picture.

Since then, the casting announcements have begun to intensify, and the latest addition is Chinese actress Jing Tian. She won’t be too familiar to US audiences just yet, but that may change very soon.

The 28-year-old actress has appeared in numerous Chinese productions, such as Special ID, Police Story: Lockdown and Dragon Nest: Warriors’ Dawn, but she also has fairly substantial roles in both The Great Wall and Kong: Skull Island lined up.

Details on her character in Pacific Rim 2 remain under wraps for now, but there’s a good chance she’ll be playing a Jaeger pilot alongside the movie’s new lead, Star Wars: The Force Awakens actor John Boyega. They’ll both join Suicide Squad‘s Scott Eastwood and the recently announced Cailee Spaeny as the female lead.

Pacific Rim 2 is scheduled to stomp into theaters on February 23, 2018.
