Perhaps I’m not the only one who’s noticed that The CW has been counting down the weeks to the premieres of its various series by dropping trailers on the respective day each show airs. The latest offering is one of the most substantial and comes in the form of an extended jaw-dropping new look at the fifth season of Arrow.
Boasting the length of your average theatrical trailer, this new promo video really calls back to the early days of the series as it seems Oliver Queen is taking a lethal approach to his vigilantism. Perhaps not having any teammates for months has caused him to become a bit more detached, but one cannot deny the sheer awesomeness of James Bamford’s fight choreography or Stephen Amell’s ability to pull it off.
Speaking of a teammates, we are given a deeper look at Team Arrow 2.0 as Mr. Terrific, Ragman, Wild Dog, and Artemis begin their training under Green Arrow’s tutelage. Be sure to also keep your eyes peeled for incoming villain Prometheus as well as guest stars Dolph Lundgren and Cody Rhodes.
As someone who has been on board since the pilot episode aired and readily admits that season 4 took several missteps, I’ll be honest in saying that this new footage has raised my excitement for the coming season. Granted it represents only the opening episodes, but hopefully the creative team keep it up and the progenitor of the “Arrowverse” does indeed return to form.

After Laurel’s (Katie Cassidy) death and the departures of both Diggle (David Ramsey) and Thea (Willa Holland) from Team Arrow, Oliver (Stephen Amell) takes to the streets solo to protect Star City’s citizens as the Green Arrow. With Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) guiding him from the bunker, Oliver is forced to deal with a city that has become overrun with both criminals and a slew of new (and painfully inexperienced) vigilantes. Watching Oliver try to balance his jobs as both the mayor and also the protector of Star City, Felicity suggests he form a new team, but Oliver resists. However, when a deadly new criminal, Tobias Church (guest star Chad L. Coleman), enters the picture, Oliver realizes the best thing for the city might be a new team of superheroes. Meanwhile, the flashbacks take us to Russia where Oliver faces off against the Bratva.
Arrow returns for its fifth season on Wednesday, October 5 on The CW.
