In news I wasn’t expecting to see today, former potential Xbox mascot Voodoo Vince is getting the remaster treatment. In a post on the Xbox Wire, creator Clayton Kauzlaric announced that Voodoo Vince: Remastered will hit Xbox One and Windows PC in early 2017.
Originally released in 2003 for the original Xbox, Voodoo Vince was a relatively well-received platformer. As the title would imply, the main hook of the game comes from the unique voodoo powers Vince possesses. These powers can be activated by collecting specific tokens located in each level. However, while these abilities are great for eliminating enemies, they will also cause harm to Vince.
After releasing the game through his studio, Beep Industries, Kauzlaric would make his way to Microsoft Games Studio over the following years. That didn’t stop fans of the cult hit from reaching out to him about re-releasing the title though, which was impossible to do on the Xbox 360 due to the code designed for the original release. So, rather than just port over the Xbox version and be done with it, Clayton has instead decided to release Voodoo Vince: Remastered through the ID@Xbox program.
As this is a remaster and not a remake, the core gameplay of Voodoo Vince will remain the same. The biggest improvements will come in the visual department, as the title will display in full 1080p, and will sport new textures and rendering effects. Original composer Steve Kirk will also deliver updates and remixes to the soundtrack.
I never had the chance to play Voodoo Vince when it was first released in 2003, but I also never knew it had developed such a following. I always figured it was just another 3D platformer, which we certainly had no shortage of in 2003. With the game being remastered, though, I’ll definitely take a trip down to New Orleans with Vince.
Tell us, are you as surprised as we are that Voodoo Vince: Remastered is heading our way in 2017? Sound off below!
