The Walking Dead Creator Discusses The Season Six Cliffhanger

It was almost inevitable that the controversial season 6 cliffhanger of The Walking Dead would become the focus of discussion at the New York Comic Con panel for the comic book series, where co-creator Robert Kirkman was on hand to field those questions. The issue, of course, is that the show often deviates from the comic book source material, and so it is not immediately clear who met their end as that season finale drew to a close.

In the comic books, it is the character of Glenn that feels the unfortunate end of Negan’s baseball bat. In the TV show, Glenn is played by Steven Yeun and audiences quickly became concerned that the only Asian character on the show might be killed. Robert Kirkman had a simple answer for the fan that raised the issue, however.

“There is a very good chance you will be very happy. There is a very good chance you will be very upset.

“I won’t be there, so I won’t care.

“Just know this: Whoever dies, they were dead this time last year or earlier. So anything you’re saying right now is completely pointless.”

This is the clearest attempt yet at addressing the furore that erupted as the credits rolled on the final episode of season six. The decision was made a long time ago. It’s simply the lot of the viewer to have to wait until The Walking Dead returns on October 23rd, 2016 for closure.
