Cast your mind back to New York Comic Con when Kate Beckinsale, star of the long-running Underworld franchise, seemingly let slip that Marvel Studios were working on rebooting Blade, be that in the form of a feature film, a spinoff Netflix series, or a role in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. much like Ghost Rider before him.

Speculation spread across the interwebs like wildfire; after all, the character of Blade (AKA Eric Brooks) still resonates with comic book fans years after his last screen appearance, and after portraying the badass vampire hunter numerous times on the screen himself, Wesley Snipes continues to hint that there is something cooking over at Marvel.

Sadly, that’s not the case – not yet, anyway. While chatting about Captain Marvel and the upcoming future of the MCU, Kevin Feige weighed in on the matter, stating simply that to his knowledge “there is nothing imminent.” It’s by no means an outright denial, and given how coy Sigourney Weaver was before being unveiled as The Defenders villain, there could well be more at play here.

Conjecture aside, here’s what Feige had to share:

“They did ask a long time ago and I think our answer was, ‘No, we’ll do something with ‘Blade’ at some point.’ That’s still the answer,” Feige says. “We still think he’s a great character. He’s a really fun character. We think this movie going into a different side of the universe would have the potential to have him pop up, but between the movies, the Netflix shows, the ABC shows there are so many opportunities for the character to pop up as you’re now seeing with Ghost Rider on ‘AGENTS of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ that rather than team up with another studio on that character let’s do something on our own. What that is? Where that will be? We’ll see. There is nothing imminent to my knowledge.”

Blade continues to simmer on the back-burner over at Marvel. But do you believe there’s a future for Eric Brooks? Do let us know.
