Stark New Poster For Nocturnal Animals Drums Up Film Noir Tenets

The latest poster for Nocturnal Animals is in and it's a seductive tease of Tom Ford's romantic thriller. Expect it to arrive nationwide on December 9.

When you love someone, you just can’t throw it away – or so says the stark new poster for Nocturnal Animals, Tom Ford’s upcoming romantic thriller that finds Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal dealing with divorce in very, very different ways.

Pegged for limited release on November 18, there’s no question that Ford’s sophomore effort – second after the rather brilliant A Single Man, that is – is hot on everyone’s lips going into awards season. Our own Darren Ruecker echoed that overly positive critical consensus in his TIFF review, noting that it is the film’s ability to weave two stories into one nerve-racking experience that could separate Nocturnal Animals from the rest of the pack in a few months’ time.

What’s the elevator pitch? Ford’s drama orbits around Susan (Adams) and Edward (Gyllenhaal), a divorced couple who find that their paths are headed for another collision course after a twisted revenge plot is uncovered. Edward, the talented writer that he is, pens a page-turner thriller that is eerily similar to Susan’s new life, one which Adams’ character interprets as a threat against her life. She’s not without her faults, of course, openly confessing to betraying her former spouse during their troubled marriage.

And therein lies the crux to Nocturnal Animals and its noir-esque premise. Drawing attention to that style today is the new one-sheet, which features a worried Amy Adams superimposed over Gyllenhaal’s glowering lead.

Nocturnal Animals, also starring Michael Shannon, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Isla Fisher, Armie Hammer, Laura Linney, Andrea Riseborough and Michael Sheen, will make its debut across a handful of select cities next month, before expanding nationwide on December 9.
