Kevin Feige Talks Avengers: Infinity War And Beyond, Says Thor: Ragnarok Is “Very, Very Different”

Speaking with Collider, president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige touched base on Avengers: Infinity War and what's next for the MCU.

Kevin Feige, current president of Marvel Studios, has been instrumental in nurturing the Marvel Cinematic Universe into a global box office phenomenon. To date, the total worldwide haul stands north of $10.2 billion and though that success is ostensibly unparalleled, the fact that each Marvel release is still able to draw in the crowds is commendable in and of itself.

The latest addition to the ever-expanding MCU is Doctor Strange, and in anticipation of Scott Derrickson’s spellbinding solo movie, Feige sat down with Collider to discuss all things Marvel. It’s a fascinating, comprehensive peek behind the curtain, and talk soon turned to Avengers: Infinity War and other future films cramming up the pipeline.

As things stand, Marvel’s slate is mapped out all the way up to Avengers 4 (May 3, 2019) and while the studio has already staked out three release dates in 2020, the identity of those new films remains a mystery. So, what’s next? Feige naturally dances around a direct answer, but he does have one fascinating tidbit to share regarding Thor: Ragnarok and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

I think anything is possible. I think absolutely you’ve seen our model this year last year that we like a new adventure in the ongoing stories of existing characters and then something completely new and completely different. I think next year you will see it with Guardians. Then frankly, I almost count Homecoming and Ragnarok as two almost entirely different and brand new thing— even though there’s been other Spider-Man films and two other Thor films. They’re [both] very, very, different.

Avengers: Infinity War is expected to open on May 4, 2018 and though its sequel remains untitled for the time being, we know Avengers 4 has been slated for May of 2019. Next to tumble off the Marvel conveyor belt is Doctor Strange. It’ll debut on these shores on November 4.
