Last time Netflix subscribers clocked eyes on Elektra, Elodie Yung’s elusive ninja had fallen prey to The Hand, and looked set to undergo some form of resurrection process in time for Daredevil season 3.
But it seems Yung’s wish has been granted; Elektra will indeed appear in The Defenders come 2017, with Marvel’s Twitter account confirming that the actress now joins Deborah Ann Woll, Simone Missick, Elden Henson, Eka Darville, Carrie-Anne Moss, Rosario Dawson, Scott Glenn, Rachael Taylor and Iron Fist star Jessica Henwick for the star-studded ensemble series.
Those who surround us, define us, and Elodie Yung’s character – a former flame to Matt Murdock’s Man Without Fear – is the latest addition to the show’s assembly of allies. How exactly her casting will affect the dynamic between Matt and Elektra is up for question, but one way or the other, the events that transpire in The Defenders will surely have a bearing on their on-off relationship going into the third season of Daredevil.
Set to comprise a total of eight episodes – down from Netflix and Marvel’s standard template of 13 – production on The Defenders is truly kicking into gear ahead of its 2017 premiere. The first set photos have already found their way online and the synopsis (see below) is locked in – all that’s left now is for Marvel to announce the official premiere date.
‘Marvel’s The Defenders’ follows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.
Joining Iron Fist and The Punisher spinoff series on Marvel’s slate, The Defenders has been earmarked for a 2017 premiere, at which point the heroes of Hell’s Kitchen will come together to do battle with Sigourney Weaver’s nemesis.
