Not to be outdone by The Walking Dead, HBO has confirmed that Sunday’s Westworld finale, “The Bicameral Mind,” will run for a super-sized 90 minutes.

Evan Rachel Wood, who plays long-time Host Dolores, confirmed the extended runtime via Twitter, before Entertainment Weekly hosted an interview with series showrunners Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan ahead of Sunday’s hotly-anticipated curtain call. With a second season already in the cards, one which will feature Ed Harris’ ominous Man in Black, both Joy and Nolan warned rampant fans not to expect “The Bicameral Mind” to doll out all the answers. Rest assured though that there will still be plenty of resolutions come Sunday, but the real kicker (read: what happens next?) will naturally be shelved until Westworld season 2.

That’s a balance Jonathan Nolan touched on while chatting to EW, stating that the creative team “weren’t interested in spinning out mysteries with no answers in sight. Our goal is to tell an ambitious story in season-long chapters, each with a distinct feel and theme.” Joy added: “Most of the questions viewers have will be resolved in the final episodes, except for the most important one: What happens next.”

What’s interesting is how Nolan refers to Westworld‘s narrative as “season-long chapters,” each with its own “distinct feel and theme.” Thanks to a production hiatus mid-way through development, HBO allowed all involved to map out future seasons of Westworld and, judging by the co-creator’s comments, it seems as though both he and Lisa Joy have a firm vision of where the show is headed next.

“The Bicameral Mind” will bring the curtain down on Westworld‘s inaugural season on December 4. In neatly dovetailing his contribution to season 1, Jonathan Nolan will direct the finale, after calling the shots on “The Original” back in October.
