Nina Dobrev, best known as Elena Gilbert/Katherine Pierce from hit supernatural drama The Vampire Diaries, has declared an interest in playing the next Catwoman.

Word comes by way of Brazilian outlet CinePOP (via Comic Book), where the actress fielded questions about xXx: The Return of Xander Cage – the 2017 action sequel in which she plays Rebecca “Becky” Clearidge – her dream superhero role, and everything in between. Given how costumed heroes continue to dominant the current Hollywood landscape, a trend that shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon, the topic of superheroes is never too far away from conversation at press junkets, so when Dobrev was asked about a potential comic book role by CinePOP, the actress conceded that Wonder Woman stands as her number one.

However, as Gal Gadot currently holds the title of DC’s Amazonian Warrior – and will continue to do so for years to come – Nina Dobrev then entertained the thought of portraying Catwoman (Selina Kyle) on the big screen. Last seen in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, where Anne Hathaway assumed the role of the Princess of Plunder, it was once claimed that Ben Affleck’s solo Batman movie would make room in its ranks for Catwoman, before Sienna Miller later refuted those same rumors.

The future of the character is unclear, then, and Warner Bros. would surely have no shortage of candidates for the iconic part if the studio was to recast another actress further down the line. At the very least, Nina Dobrev would be one name in the mix if Catwoman were to claw her way back onto the silver screen in the not-so-distant future.

xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, meanwhile, opens on January 20, 2017.
