J.J. Abrams is no stranger to space. Between Star Trek and Star Wars, he’s been all over the galaxy, but that’s not stopping him from returning, as he’s now set to produce Glare for HBO, an hourlong drama series exploring the colonization of another planet.

Glare marks Abrams’ second collaboration with HBO after serving as an executive producer on this fall’s exceptionally popular freshman series Westworld, which will return for a second season in 2018. Remember, it takes a while to make a show on that scale, and it might be some time before we see Glare hit television screens as well. It’s still in early development, with a scripting deal recently secured by Warner Bros. Television.

Abrams is joined by fellow executive producers Ben Stephenson and Javier Gullon, the latter being the writer behind the project as well. Details are limited otherwise, but we should hear more in the near future. With Game of Thrones set to come to an end after its eighth season, HBO is looking for fresh blood to take its place. Sure, Westworld is doing exceedingly well, but they’ll need something else if they want to keep themselves from another Vinyl-sized hole. Hopefully, Glare will not only provide the size, but the high quality usually associated with the network’s programming.

Meanwhile, Glare and Westworld are certainly not the only shows Abrams helped produce of late. He was also behind Hulu’s mini-series 11.22.63 and had a hand in Cameron Crowe’s failed Showtime series Roadies earlier this year. In the world of film Abrams serves as a producer on Mission: Impossible 6, the untitled new Cloverfield anthology chapter and, of course, Star Wars: Episode VIII, to name a mere few. Suffice to say, he’s got no trouble keeping busy.
