Doctor Strange Writer Talks About Clea Possibly Appearing In The Sequel

When Rachel McAdams was cast in Marvel's Doctor Strange, many fans assumed she'd be playing Clea, who is arguably the Sorcerer Supreme's most well-known and popular female supporting character. Of course, that didn't turn out to be the case, and McAdams ended up portraying Doctor Christine Palmer - but is there a chance we could see Clea introduced in a potential sequel?

During an interview with CBR, Doctor Strange screenwriter Jon Spaihts explains why it was decided not to introduce Strange’s disciple/lover in the first big screen outing, but also suggests that they could “find a way” of bringing the powerful sorceress on board for a future film.

She’s a tricky character to interpret because her uncle is a kind of fire-headed omnipotent god and she’s kind of a hot babe who studies magic. That’s a tricky relationship to bring out of a comic book and on to a movie screen. But she’s a really compelling character as a foil, a love interest, a colleague of Doctor Strange’s, and she always carries with her that width of mystery as to whether she is human, and how human, and what that means for his relationship to her. So we might find a way to introduce her to the story.

A Doctor Strange sequel hasn’t been officially announced just yet, but one would assume it’s an inevitability after the movie went on to become Marvel’s most profitable single character launch, and continues to perform very well at the box office even now. There’s also no guarantee that Spaihts will return as writer, though he certainly seems hopeful that it’ll happen.

Tell us, would you like to see Clea make her live-action debut in the Doctor Strange sequel, or do you think the character is a little too “out there” to bring in at this stage? Drop us a comment below and let us know.
