Peter Parker Confronts Gwen Stacy In The Amazing Spider-Man #23 Preview

One of the biggest shocks in The Clone Conspiracy came when we learned that a resurrected Gwen Stacy had been working with the Jackal (secretly Ben Reilly) the whole time as he enacts a scheme to bring back Peter Parker's greatest enemies and loved ones from the grave. Now, those two finally come face to face in next week's issue #23 of The Amazing Spider-Man.

One of the biggest shocks in The Clone Conspiracy came when we learned that a resurrected Gwen Stacy had been working with the Jackal (secretly Ben Reilly) the whole time as he enacts a scheme to bring back Peter Parker’s greatest enemies and loved ones from the grave. Now, those two will finally come face to face in next week’s issue #23 of The Amazing Spider-Man.

While the wall-crawler has come across various versions of his greatest love over the years, this is supposedly the real deal, and one of Spider-Man’s most heartbreaking defeats came when she was murdered by the Green Goblin. However, as you can see in the preview below, Peter’s having a hard time accepting that she’s his Gwen and not just another clone who shares her memories.

For more on what to expect from The Amazing Spider-Man #23, here’s the solicitation text from Marvel. Dan Slott and Christos Gage are writing, while Giuseppe Camuncoli pencils the issue.

• Gwen Stacy is back in the land of the living and in league with The Jackal.
• But why? She’s not evil. She’s not being mind-controlled. What would push the one of the most beloved characters in Marvel history to join one of Spider-Man’s worst villains?!

We already know that Ben Reilly will be sticking around as the Scarlet Spider, but the fate of the rest of the clones – specifically Gwen Stacy – remains to be seen. Bringing her back into the hero’s world would shake it up in a big way though, especially if their romance were to pick up where it left off all those years ago.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens, but expect more to be revealed when this issue of The Amazing Spider-Man goes on sale next Wednesday.
