Sterling K. Brown, a new recruit of the Black Panther solo movie, is lobbying for the role of John Stewart in Green Lantern Corps.

Earlier this week, Green Lantern Corps. took a massive step forward at Warner Bros. after the studio drafted in both David Goyer and Justin Rhodes to hash out a screenplay. Lethal Weapon in space is the early elevator pitch, with that somewhat tentative July 2020 release date still in place.

In line with previous rumors, Hal Jordan and John Stewart will anchor the cosmic origin story, though Warner is yet to announce anything casting-wise. But speculation continues to swirl, and after catching wind of Goyer and Rhodes’ appointment, Emmy-winning actor Sterling K. Brown took to Twitter to toss his hat in the ring. Best known for his scene-stealing performance in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, Brown just recently climbed on board Marvel’s Black Panther solo movie, but it seems he may well hop over the fence to headline a DC film, providing the stars align.

Sterling K. Brown isn’t the first – nor is he likely to be the last – actor to lobby for the Green Lantern role of John Stewart, but if the Powers That Be really are listening, Brown’s enthusiasm will no doubt provide some food for thought.

We’ll be keeping track of Green Lantern Corps. as the standalone pic begins to coalesce. A July 24, 2020 release date is currently locked in, but that window is subject to change depending on how quickly WB can assemble Hal Jordan, John Stewart and the rest of the spacefaring gang.

Switching gears from DC to Marvel, Black Panther is expected to claw its way into theaters on February 16, 2018.
