It’s certainly been a big week for Riverdale news and understandably so, with the series premiere being just around the corner. In addition to a batch of crisp, moody promo shots having been revealed just days ago, a new trailer has now surfaced.

In it, we’re continued to be teased with a murder mystery that may very well serve as the backdrop for the inaugural season that has everybody talking. Despite the first episode not having hit airwaves yet, fans have already begun placing their bets on who the culprit may be (my money is on Cheryl Blossom, in case you’re wondering).

In addition to that, the folks at Archie Comics have let this new take spill over into the realm that inspired it. Aside from the recently announced Free Comic Book Day sampler, a special one-shot written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and illustrated by Alitha Martinez will serve as a prequel of sorts. You can check out the official synopsis for it below:

Learn the secrets and hidden tales from the summer before the eternal love-triangle begins in this special issue, which features four short stories focusing on the major players and events in the Riverdale series. You dare not miss this special commemorative issue in advance of the upcoming ongoing Riverdale series, written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Afterlife with Archie, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and the writers of the CW’s Riverdale series, with stunning art by Alitha Martinez (Black Panther: Worlds of Wakanda)!

Riverdale premieres on Thursday, January 26 on The CW, with the prequel comic arriving on March 1. A variant cover drawn by Ryan Sook can be seen below and comes courtesy of Comic Vine.
