DC’s first major crossover event of the Rebirth era, Justice League vs. Suicide Squad, may be very close to reaching its conclusion, but it feels like there’s so much more ground to cover. The explosive finale will not only help in launching Steve Orlando’s new Justice League of America series that ships next month, but it’ll also set the tone for many major plotlines to follow in 2017, no matter what book we’re talking about.
In this penultimate issue, Maxwell Lord takes one more step toward going full Eclipso as he’s used an ancient artifact to corrupt the Justice League – except for Batman – and has handily taken the United States in less time than it would take for a pizza to arrive at your doorstep. I would have to say this miniseries has now transcended being a simple crossover joining two super teams who are just now getting their first motion pictures and has entered “definitive” territory.
Narrative aside, it must be noted that Robson Rocha handles penciling duties this time around. After contributing such stellar work to Green Lanterns last year, it’s no wonder that DC tasked him with a major project.
Justice League vs. Suicide Squad #5 arrives in comic shops this Wednesday, January 18. Be sure to check out the official synopsis below for more:
[REDACTED] has finally obtained that which [REDACTED] has sought all this time—it’s the means to utterly [REDACTED] the Justice League forever. Now, only [REDACTED] and the Suicide Squad stand in [REDACTED] path of total world domination. No pressure!
