DC Announces Free Comic Book Day 2017 Titles With Key Focus On Wonder Woman

Each year, comic book retailers celebrate their equivalent of Black Friday on the first Saturday in May. Dubbed “Free Comic Book Day,” it delivers on its namesake as every top publisher puts out a free floppyback or two with the intention of hooking new readers. Plus, the stores themselves often have some wicked deals for those who stick around to actually purchase something.

As it turns out, DC will shine the spotlight on some of its most prominent female superheroes this spring when two titles featuring the iconic Wonder Woman arrive just in time for her silver screen outing.

First, let’s talk about Wonder Woman FCBD 2017 Special Edition, which will serve as somewhat of a sampler for Wonder Woman Vol. 2: Year One, a collected edition that will see release on May 3. Although the cover for this printing was originally used for Wonder Woman #4, we suspect that the content will, in fact, be taken from issue #2 because that’s where the “Year One” arc kicked off.

The creative team and synopsis can be found below:

(Writer) Greg Rucka, (Artist) Nicola Scott

New York Times best-selling writer Greg Rucka and fan-favorite artist Nicola Scott weave the definitive and shocking tale of Diana’s first year as Earth’s protector. Paradise has been breached, Ares stirs, and the Amazons must answer with a champion of their own…one who is willing to sacrifice her home amongst her sisters to save a world she has never seen. Wonder Woman’s journey begins in this epic origin story!

When it comes to DC’s all ages title, you can look forward to reading about the latest adventures of Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Supergirl, Harley Quinn and others in DC Super Hero Girls FCBD 2017 Special Edition. If you’re curious to know what to expect from the story, be sure to check out this description, which is preceded by the creative team:

(Writer) Shea Fontana, (Artist) Yancey Labat

DC Super Hero Girls is an exciting new universe of superhero storytelling that builds character and confidence and empowers girls to discover their true potential. This special FCBD issue features an exciting, action-packed story from the upcoming original graphic novel DC SUPER HERO GIRLS: SUMMER OLYMPUS that readers of all ages will enjoy.

Be sure to pick up both free books starring Wonder Woman on Saturday, May 6.
