Uncharted: The Lost Legacy DLC Will Be “Tonally Different” Than Core Game

This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

Much like The Last of Us before it, Uncharted 4 proved to be another tour de force for Naughty Dog – a thrilling, bittersweet adventure befitting of Nathan Drake’s inevitable swan song. Almost a year has passed since a thief met his end, and Naughty Dog is gearing up for the launch of the game’s single-player DLC, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.

First showcased at December’s PlayStation Experience event in Anaheim, The Lost Legacy carves out space on the Uncharted timeline to focus on Chloe and Nadine, as they set about exploring a war-torn India. Little is known about Naughty Dog’s release plans for The Lost Legacy, but if The Last of Us: Left Behind is any indication, the DLC should launch right around Uncharted 4‘s one-year anniversary (read: May 2017).

And though he danced around specific plot details, Naughty Dog Creative Director Shaun Escayg discussed Uncharted: The Lost Legacy during an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine (via PowerUpGaming). Confirming the Asian setting, Escayg went on to tease an adventure that is “tonally different” to Uncharted 4.

“It [will] be tonally different, but in the same context of the Uncharted world. India’s got really nice iconography: hidden temples and weird deities we can play off of, so it’s a perfect setting for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.”

Gameplay-wise, Naughty Dog is seemingly cooking up a “more open experience” with Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, indicating that players will be able to explore the many nooks and crannies of India’s crowded streets as Chloe.

“I would say we’re going a little more wide this time,” he said. “I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s something we’re excited about on the gameplay side, this kind of contrast of an urban setting and a rural setting; a tighter experience and more open experience.”

Uncharted 4 launched in May of last year to universal acclaim, even ranking high in WGTC’s 2016 Game of the Year coverage. Its story-driven expansion, The Lost Legacy, is currently without a release date at the time of writing, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on Naughty Dog’s DLC over the coming months.
