If a recent Instagram post is any indication, John Boyega may be hinting at the return of Gipsy Danger in next year's Pacific Rim: Uprising.

Will Pacific Rim: Uprising resurrect Gipsy Danger? It’s certainly not off the table, if a recent Instagram post from John Boyega is any indication.

First spotted by CBM, Boyega uploaded a monotone image of the towering Jaeger late last week. No caption was attached, and it looks as though the picture in question is pulled from Guillermo del Toro’s original creature feature, right around the time that America’s flagship WMD is deployed at Anchorage. The pilots? Yancy and Raleigh Becket, the latter of whom was portrayed by Charlie Hunnam. Turns out the former Sons of Anarchy star won’t be reprising his role for Pacific Rim: Uprising in 2018, opening up the field for John Boyega to take center stage as Jake Pentecost.

On the topic of Gipsy Danger, though, until Legendary releases anything official, don’t take John Boyega’s post as gospel just yet. Besides, the fact that America’s Jaeger was used as a literal WMD to close the Breach during the first film does cast doubt over Gipsy’s chances of fighting another battle, but until we know for sure, have a gander at the picture below and see what you think.

Per Instagram:

With the jury still out on Gipsy Danger, we know that Uprising brings together a cast that includes Lana Candor, Scott Eastwood, Jing Tian, Cailee Spaeny, Ivanna Sakhno and Adria Arjona – and definitely not Karl Urban. Daredevil showrunner Steven S. DeKnight is behind the lens, with Guillermo del Toro attached to produce.

With production well underway Down Under, expect Pacific Rim: Uprising to slam into theaters on February 23rd, 2018.
