Powerless Showrunner Has Ideas For A Grant Gustin Cameo

Earlier tonight, DC Comics premiered its brand new show Powerless. However, unlike say Arrow or The Flash, this isn't strictly speaking a superhero affair. Instead, the series is a workplace comedy that focuses on the normal humans living in the same world as these larger than life heroes, and the repercussions that come along with that. Still, coming to us from DC, many fans are expecting easter eggs, nods and perhaps, even a cameo or two as Powerless carries out its debut season.

Earlier tonight, DC Comics premiered its brand new show Powerless. However, unlike say Arrow or The Flash, this isn’t, strictly speaking, a superhero affair. Instead, the series is a workplace comedy that focuses on normal humans living in the same world as these larger than life heroes, and the repercussions that come along with that. Still, coming to us from DC, many fans are expecting easter eggs, nods and perhaps, even a familiar face or two as Powerless carries out its debut season.

Those first two things have already occurred, several times, but seeing the likes of Batman or Superman showing up doesn’t seem too likely at this point. And that’s despite the fact that the main characters work for Bruce Wayne’s cousin, Van. So, while we shouldn’t hold our breath to see any of our favorite superheroes appear, does that mean we won’t get any sort of cameos at all? Not if showrunner Patrick Schumaker has his way.

Speaking to CBR in a recent interview, he shared a clever idea for how he thinks a cameo may work on Powerless:

“If they’ll let us do it, I would have Jason Momoa show up next season as the Sparkletts guy. He’ll never show up as Aquaman. Ben Affleck will never show up as Batman. We can’t rule out that Grant Gustin could show up some other time playing somebody else, that there’s a little bit of a crossover. You have so much license, given the high-concept nature of this show, I think you have a lot of license… The idea of a multiverse, I think, gives you license to have an actor from one of the other shows show up playing somebody different. Because who’s to say in this world that Barry Allen or Wally West – Barry Allen if it’s Grant – isn’t a courier? He doesn’t have any powers, necessarily. Or maybe he does, and we just never show it. Maybe he’s the FedEx guy.”

Admittedly, Schumaker does have a point here. It’s very possible that the Barry Allen of Powerless‘ world is, well, powerless. If they can get around all the red tape that would be in the way of making this happen, a cameo from Gustin, or any of the other guys that Schumaker mentions, could just work.

We can’t really see Affleck or any of the DC stars from the big screen making their way onto the show, but it wouldn’t be too difficult to imagine some of the actors from The CW series appearing on Powerless at some point. And honestly, if they could handle the cameos in a way that feels organic and not just shoehorned in, we’d be all for seeing it happen.

What do you think, though? Should NBC’s new workplace sitcom pull in characters from other DC properties? Sound off in the comments section and give us your thoughts!
