The Luthors Take Center Stage In Extended Supergirl Promo

Although it seems much of Earth-38’s mythology concerning supervillains began with Kara’s emergence as Supergirl, some key components are far behind us, such as Lex Luthor’s heyday. But that only makes sense when you consider that he’s Superman’s archnemesis, not the heroine this series focuses on.

Still, that hasn’t stopped the producers from introducing Lena and Lillian Luthor, Lex’s sister and mother, respectively, on the show. And from what we can tell, it’s the family matriarch whom Lex shares most in common with in this particular universe.

The extended trailer for the appropriately titled “Luthors” contains a few more bits of footage than what was seen in the promo that dropped last night, but what likely has everyone freeze-framing is the reveal of Lex’s battlesuit. Now, it may be a cute little Easter egg or someone like, say, Metallo may don it before long, but you have to admit that seeing it in live action is seriously causing many to fanboy out.

For more information, be sure to check out the official synopsis below:

After Metallo (guest star Frederick Schmidt) breaks out of prison and frees Lillian Luthor (guest star Brenda Strong), the police blame Lena (guest star Katie McGrath) for his escape and arrest her. Despite overwhelming evidence, Kara (Melissa Benoist) refuses to believe her friend is guilty and fights to clear Lena’s name. Flashbacks reveal how Lena came to be a Luthor. Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (Floriana Lima) celebrate their first Valentine’s Day together. Tawnia McKiernan directed the episode written by Robert Rovner and Cindy Lichtman.

Supergirl airs on Monday nights on The CW.
