Don’t Hold Your Breath For A PlayStation 4 Release Of Fallout Shelter

This week saw the release of Bethesda's mobile game Fallout Shelter on Xbox One and Windows 10, but if you're holding out for the arrival of a similar port to Sony's PlayStation 4, you're likely to end up waiting a while, possibly forever. In response to a Twitter user's question regarding such a port, Bethesda's VP of marketing Pete Hines simply replied with "dunno," a pretty obvious indication that, if such a thing is on the cards, Bethesda certainly isn't in the process of working on it.

This week saw the release of Bethesda’s mobile game Fallout Shelter on Xbox One and Windows 10, but if you’re holding out for the arrival of a similar port to Sony’s PlayStation 4, you’re likely to end up waiting a while, possibly forever. In response to a Twitter user’s question regarding such a port, Bethesda’s VP of marketing Pete Hines simply replied with “dunno,” a pretty obvious indication that, if such a thing is on the cards, Bethesda certainly isn’t in the process of working on it.

Hines’ follow-up to the blunt answer provides some clues as to the whereabouts of a PS4 version, however. Despite the port being available on Xbox One, it wasn’t specifically developed for Microsoft’s console, but for the universal windows platform, i.e. any device that supports UWP can run the game, which first saw life on Apple’s iOS platform, followed shortly after by an Android iteration.

Unsurprisingly, what with the two titans of industry being competitors in the gaming market, the PS4 doesn’t support the use of the universal windows platform, so the chances of this specific version of Fallout Shelter seeing a release on the device are, you guessed it, nil. Never say never, but unless Bethesda is up for putting the work in for a specific PS4 version of the micromanagement title, it looks like you’ll have to stick to other methods of checking in on your Vault Dwellers for the foreseeable future.

In related news, yesterday saw Bethesda release an official HD texture pack for Fallout 4 on PC, with dedicated PS4 Pro support for the title scheduled to arrive imminently. Read more about both right here.
