With Guardians star Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard already locked in to return, Jurassic World 2 has spent the past few months amassing a stellar supporting cast as Universal prepares to fire up production on its 2018 sequel.

First up we had the two-fold casting coup of Rafe Spall (Prometheus) and Sherlock star Toby Jones, before the studio set sights on both Daniella Pineda and The Get Down breakout Justice Smith – DJ Dimitri Vegas is also said to be in the mix, though we’re still waiting for final confirmation on that one. And so, as the casting process begins to enter the homestretch, Variety brings word that Ted Levine has closed a deal to join Jurassic World 2 in a mystery role.

Best known for his chilling portrayal of Buffalo Bill in The Silence of the Lambs, Levine is an exciting addition to the sequel’s ensemble cast, and we’re intrigued to find out which side of the moral spectrum his character will be based. An enigmatic employee of the InGen corporation? Or a helpful ally to Owen (Pratt) and Claire (Dallas Howard) and the rest of the gang? Time will tell.

Jurassic World 2 is expected to lens over the coming months. A summer 2018 release date is in place, but can the J.A. Bayona-directed follow-up possibly top its predecessor’s record-breaking haul of $1.67 billion? Even if Universal’s sequel comes up short in the financial department, we’re confident Bayona and Co. can deliver a competent, downright scary sequel.

Jurassic World 2 will seemingly take the franchise into uncharted territory when J.A. Bayona’s monstrous sequel stomps into theaters on June 22nd, 2018. Despite departing for a galaxy far, far away, Colin Trevorrow remains attached to produce, and has already turned in a screenplay he wrote alongside long-time cohort Derek Connolly.
