It’s probably safe to say that 2017 will be a great time to be a fan of a certain wallcrawler. Not only is Tom Holland set to dazzle audiences this July in Spider-Man: Homecoming, but there’s also the announcement that Marvel is rolling out yet another ongoing series headlined by one of its oldest and most popular characters in the form of Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man.
Sure, there may be other ways to currently get your fix of Peter and other heroes with similar powers, but it never hurts to have one more title on stands – especially with a movie on the way. You have to admit that new readers will be far less intimidated when they venture into comic shops this June to see an enticing “#1” on a cover.
As for what you can expect from this particular book, writer Chip Zdarsky (who will be joined by artist Adam Kubert) had this to say about the direction he’s taking:
“With [Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man] we’re using the same Spider-Man continuity, but shifting the spotlight back to his NYC environment and supporting cast. But even though we’re pushing to make it a more personal book, we’re still going to have big adventures with ramifications that’ll be felt in other books. If I had a true mission statement for the book it would be: ‘Have fun, have heart, have stakes.’”
But, if you can’t wait until June, a special sneak peek will be included in Secret Empire FCBD #1, which will be made available on Free Comic Book Day, Saturday, May 6. In the meantime, be sure to check out cover art for that and Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #1 below.
