Marvel‘s comic book sales have been plummeting for a while now, and the blame can probably be pinned on two things. Endless new #1 issues are part of the problem, and so too is the decision to replace classic characters with new versions. For example, Amadeus Cho is currently The Hulk, while Jane Foster is Thor and X-23 is Wolverine.
Could that all be about to change, though? Painted by Alex Ross, the gorgeous teaser image below was released earlier today, accompanied only by the word “Generations.” This could be an indication that the company is going to bring back some fan favourite heroes which will see the Marvel Universe return to something closer to its older self, which would certainly please fans.
From left to right, we see both the original and modern versions of Jean Grey, Wolverine, Thor, Captain America, Nova, Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Spider-Man and the Hulk. For all we know, this could be a limited series or some sort of event, but the prospect of a Marvel Universe which looks a lot more like the old one is something that has us quite excited.
Bleeding Cool originally stated that many of the new versions of these heroes will stick around, but the likes of Captain America, Thor and Iron Man taking centre stage in easier to read titles which aren’t so convoluted and contain classic adventures should help Marvel quite a bit. In fact, we’ve already started seeing that happen with the debut of a new Spider-Man series.
While we wait for more answers, take a look at the new image below and be sure to let us know in the comments section what you make of it.
