A new playable faction in Total War: Warhammer is scheduled to become available next week, February 28, developer Creative Assembly has announced. Bretonnia, a chivalrous kingdom that boasts the strongest conglomerate of human military power besides The Empire, counts Grail Knights, skilled squires and other medieval forces among its ranks, and it’ll be riding to war in just under a week as part of a free update for all players.

Considering the vast wealth of history and lore Creative Assembly has access to when introducing new factions for its take on the Games Workshop tabletop game, I find it surprising that it would go with a group that’s already quite similar to an existing one (The Empire), but there are a few differences that set them apart.

Chief among those are three new Legendary Lords – Louen Leoncoeur, Alberic and The Fay Enchantress, all of which bring their own unique abilities to the battlefield. The current king of Bretonnia, Louen traditionally rides a Hippogryph during battle, so you’ll likely know if he’s present in any given skirmish. Interestingly, popular character the Green Knight hasn’t been designated a Lord, but players will have the ability to summon him when the “need is dire,” according to the developer.

Given that it’s taken almost a year for a brand new faction to be introduced to Total War: Warhammer, it could be the case that players will be waiting a rather long time for any future additions. What other iconic Warhammer armies would you like to see Creative add next, though? Let us know in the usual place.
