Family No More: The Fate Of The Furious Gets New Poster And TV Spot

Dom goes rogue in the latest TV spot for The Fate of the Furious, Universal and F. Gary Gray's sequel that's due for release on April 12th.

From the moment Dominic Toretto first revved that by-now iconic Dodge Charger all the way back in 2001, family has formed the narrative spine of The Fast and Furious saga, even as Universal’s cult petrolhead series morphed into a bona fide blockbuster juggernaut – the latest iteration, Furious 7, pulled in an eye-watering $1.5 billion at the international box office.

Two years later, and The Fate of the Furious looks set to put those family values to the sword, as Vin Diesel’s fearless leader turns his back on the rest of the gang for reasons unknown. Franchise newcomer Charlize Theron, who plays the alluring Cipher, looks to be pulling the strings behind Dom’s betrayal, but one way or another, it sets up a tantalizing divide between the Toretto crew in the build-up to release – The Fast and the Furious: Civil War, if you will.

Orchestrating the jaw-dropping action from behind the lens is F. Gary Gray, who turned heads and raised eyebrows with his stellar rap drama Straight Outta Compton. Now, the writer-director has a whole new gang of outlaws to contend with, and up above you’ll be able to get a small taste of what to expect in The Fate of the Furious. There’s also a new poster to accompany the TV spot, which takes that aforementioned family bond and shatters it into a million pieces. Can Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson), Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and the rest of the gang bring Dom back to the fold? We’ll find out soon.

Universal is expected to reveal The Fate of the Furious on April 12th, before F. Gary Gray’s sequel races into UK theaters on April 14th. Plans are in place for another two installments further down the road, and that’s before we even factor in the possibility of character-driven spinoffs into the equation.
