The Night Manager was quite easily one of the best TV shows of 2016, and while the Tom Hiddleston-led BBC drama felt very much like a standalone series, it has now been revealed that a second season is currently in the works and already being written.

Director Susanne Bier’s adaptation of the John le Carre novel was met with widespread critical acclaim, huge ratings and a ton of awards, so this news probably shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Regardless, here’s what she said about where things currently stand with The Night Manager after confirming that season 2 is currently in the works:

“We all very much want to do a season two, but the thing we absolutely do not want is to do something that does not live up to the level of season one. That would be a really bad idea.”

That’s definitely encouraging to hear, but it’s worth pointing out that the first season’s writer, David Farr (Hanna), has already confirmed that he’s moved on from The Night Manager. That explains why a new team of scribes has been chosen and Bier’s reluctance to commit to making it until she’s 100% sure that it can follow what’s come before.

It’s hard to say what direction the show could head in if it were to return, while the involvement of original cast members Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie and Olivia Colman also remains up in the air. If the right story can be found, however, The Night Manager returning would be no bad thing and we’re certainly up for seeing more of it.

What do you think, though? Would you be open to a second season of The Night Manager? Let us know in the usual spot.
