When Marvel decided to launch a new Ghost Rider series with Johnny Blaze replaced by the car driving Robbie Reyes, the response was fairly mixed. As a result, that comic book didn’t last particularly long, but when the character came to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the publisher decided to give Robbie another chance.
Unfortunately, it hasn’t paid off for them, as Ghost Rider has been cancelled after just five issues. The final outing is set to be released at the end of this month and will feature the titular hero teaming up with Silk, Wolverine, Hulk and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to take on a monster from outer space. You’d think that a star-studded cast like that would be enough to keep the title around for one more month, but that’s apparently not the case.
This is quite surprising, too, especially as Ghost Rider #6 was originally solicited for release in April. Here are the details on what was set to take place in that one:

• The Spirit of Eli Morrow is getting stronger and more vicious every day!
• The LAPD can’t ignore the demonic monster in their backyard anymore…
The current Ghost Rider creative team of writer Felipe Smith and artist Danilo Beyruth were set to work on the sixth instalment of the series, but what’s next for them now that it’s cancelled remains to be seen. The title’s failure and mediocre ratings for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. don’t exactly make that rumoured Ghost Rider TV show seem very likely, so it appears as if we can expect Robbie Reyes to remain on the shelf in all formats for the foreseeable future.
