From the get-go, Titans hasn’t been shy when it comes to exploring the bigger mysteries surrounding the young Rebirth era. Having already detailed the reason for the pre-Flashpoint Wally West being in current continuity proved this title wasn’t messing around and, according to series writer Dan Abnett, he’s not slowing down any time soon.

In the latest episode of DC All Access, co-host Whitney Moore had the opportunity to video chat with one of the publisher’s more prolific writers at the moment, as he discussed Titans Annual #1. As you may be aware, annuals can often be either entertaining standalones or overpriced throwaways, but thankfully, Abnett and company have decided to make use of this opportunity by tying it into the grand scheme of things.

In doing so, he’s united various members of the Titans with their corresponding Justice League mentors: Batman and Nightwing; Flashes Barry Allen and Wally West; Aquaman and Tempest; and Wonder Woman and Donna Troy. Apparently, the Key has some sinister reasons for getting these folks together, but it looks like someone just might be pulling his strings. Furthermore, this is expected to tie in to the next major story arc for this particular title.

Beyond that, Abnett also teases May’s crossover with Teen Titans and Deathstroke, the highly enticing “Lazarus Contract.” While he doesn’t divulge too much, he does say that it was a blast to work with fellow scribes Christopher Priest and Benjamin Percy, while giving a nod to the classic Judas Contract tale.

Titans Annual #1 is now available in comic shops.
