If you’re a serious comic book collector who happens to be reading this, you just might have an affinity for variant covers. Not surprisingly, DC has several notable ones on tap for this May, some of which you may be fortunate enough to find at cover price, while others you may have to lay down a few more bucks for.
The hardest to ignore of the lot (all of which can be viewed in the gallery at the top) is that of those for The Flash #22. Not only will this serve as the concluding chapter of “The Button,” but it’s also strongly hinting at the return of the pre-Flashpoint Jay Garrick, just as the Thomas Wayne Batman has been. We could probably talk about this all day, but for now, be sure to feast your eyes on Howard Porter’s variant and Jason Fabok’s non-lenticular offering.
It shouldn’t come as a shocker to you that Batman related titles dominate the gallery because the Dark Knight always has and will remain attracting the top artists in the industry. Evidencing that are the contributions of Rafael Albuquerque (All-Star Batman #10), the legendary Kelley Jones (Bane: Conquest #1), rising star Mikel Janin (Dark Knight III: The Master Race #9) and Javier Fernandez (Nightwing). Actually, that last one may prove to be the standard cover, but regardless of which it may be, that’s one book we all need to keep our eyes on given the recent return of Dr. Simon Hurt.
Beyond those, Frank Cho continues to pay homage to Batman: The Animated Series with his Harley Quinn #19 cover, and Joshua Middleton presents an Arthur Curry that looks like a hybrid of Frankie Muniz and Resident Evil CODE: Veronica’s Alfred Ashford with Aquaman #22.
