It’s an intergalactic conflict years in the making, one that can be traced all the way back to Josh Brolin’s first appearance as the Mad Titan in the original Avengers movie, but with the release of Joe and Anthony Russo’s all-star Avengers: Infinity War in 2018, all things will come to a head – you know, until the inevitable Avengers 4 completes the arc 12 months later.
We are, of course, referring to the battle between Thanos and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, a team of costumed crusaders that includes everyone from Chris Evans’ Captain America – arguably the glue that binds them together – to Chadwick Boseman’s royal superhero, Black Panther. They won’t do so alone, of course, given how Infinity War will see them join forces with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Unsurprisingly, James Gunn’s motley crew of A-holes are expected to bring some levity to the superhero sequel, and here, Zoe Saldana (Gamora) reveals who she’d like to see best Thanos when the gloves (Infinity Gauntlet?) are off.
Per Comic Book, the actress selected her on-screen step-sister Nebula (Karen Gillan) to kill off the Mad Titan, claiming that her animosity toward Thanos is the perfect fuel for the fire.
I think that me, as his golden child, I sort of gave up. I’m done. I’m resolved. I wouldn’t want anybody else to put him in the place than the first person the struck and he hurt the most which are his kids. So, I would want Nebula to do it, [although] I would love to go with my sister and kill daddy dearest.
In related news, and after signing on for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, James Gunn told Screen Rant that the nascent threequel will “end this iteration” of the Guardians story arc, indicating that there could well be a new roster of galactic A-holes drafted in to replace Star-Lord and Co. in Marvel’s Phase 4. Said he: “It means it’s the end of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Yeah.”
It aligns with Gunn’s previous comments about Guardians 3, too, after the fan-favorite filmmaker teased the ways in which Vol. 3 will “help catapult both old and new Marvel characters into the next ten years and beyond.”
On May 5th, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will light up theaters in North America, and it would seem James Gunn’s spacefaring sequel has garnered near unanimous approval ahead of release. Avengers: Infinity War, on the other hand, is penciled in for May of 2018.
