There has been an awakening, have you felt it? If you’ve logged into Twitter or Reddit in the past six hours, you’ve no doubt stumbled upon the first motion posters or teasers – or both! – for The Dark Tower, Sony and director Nikolaj Arcel’s wildly ambitious interpretation of the Stephen King classic.
Of course, there’s a reason the studio’s marketing machine has sprung into life after months spent in hibernation: Tomorrow heralds the unveiling of The Dark Tower‘s inaugural trailer, and after an amusing Twitter exchange between Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey whilst in character, we’re now so close to the first full-length trailer for Nikolaj Arcel’s star-studded adaptation that we can almost smell the lead emanating from The Gunslinger’s trusty Sandalwood Guns. “I do not kill with my gun; I kill with my heart.”
Idris Elba is attached to the part of Roland Deschain, who journeys through Mid-World and beyond in his quest to understand the titular, towering edifice – the nexus of time, essentially – and you’ll be able to get another glimpse at The Gunslinger decked out and ready for combat via the character posters embedded below. He’s sworn to protect The Dark Tower, while Matthew McConaughey’s enigmatic Man in Black is sworn to destroy it. That conflict fuels an old-fashioned duel between good and evil, but who will triumph? Time will tell.
“Pilgrim, there are other worlds than these. Come with us on the adventure.” The Dark Tower will make its theatrical debut via U.S. theaters on August 4th.
