Billy Crudup Says The Flash’s Schedule Is “Unclear”

Of the ever-growing list of DC Extended Universe movies that are in the works right now, the most cursed seems to be The Flash, the first solo film to star DC's Scarlet Speedster. The project has been passed over by so many prospective writers and directors at this point - Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Seth Grahame-Smith, Rick Famuyiwa - that we wouldn't be surprised to find that the Reverse-Flash has been deliberately messing with the timeline to make sure it fails.

Of the ever-growing list of DC Extended Universe movies that are in the works right now, the most cursed seems to be The Flashthe first solo film to star DC’s Scarlet Speedster. The project has been passed over by so many prospective writers and directors at this point – Phil Lord and Chris Miller, Seth Grahame-Smith, Rick Famuyiwa – that we wouldn’t be surprised to find that the Reverse-Flash has been deliberately messing with the timeline to make sure it fails.

It doesn’t looks like The Flash‘s fortunes will change any time soon, either, as one member of the cast has revealed that things still appear to be uncertain for the movie. Speaking to Italian site Bad Taste for his upcoming project Alien: CovenantBilly Crudup – who’s lined up to play the Flash’s father, Henry Allen, in the film – was asked if he knew whether he’d be shooting the DC Extended Universe flick in the near future, to which he replied:

“Oh, no, I don’t. It’s unclear at the moment. Ezra [Miller]’s schedule – Ezra’s a busy man. He’s very popular and excellent.”

Crudup’s answer isn’t a surprising one. Aside from the problems with nailing a director, star Ezra Miller is a hot ticket in Hollywood at the moment. Notably, he has a long-term role in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them franchise. Seeing as Warner Bros. are also behind those films, they’re likely more than happy to wait for him to finish up before pressing forward with The Flash.

The last concrete thing we heard was that screenwriter Joby Harold was undertaking a page one rewrite of the movie’s script in order to entice a new director to the project. More recently, however, Back to the Future‘s Robert Zemeckis was linked with the film, but unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to have come to much.

While we wait for The Flash to find its way out of the Speed Force, at least we have Ezra Miller’s appearance in Justice League to look forward to, as Zack Snyder’s blockbuster bursts into theatres on November 17th.
