New Blade Runner 2049 Trailer Promises One Of The Year’s Best Sci-Fi Flicks

Though a lot of focus is being placed on Alien: Covenant right now, given that it’s set to hit theaters this Friday (read our review here), there’s another Ridley Scott classic that’s making its way back into the public eye this year as well. Of course, we’re talking about Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to the iconic 1982 sci-fi film starring Harrison Ford. It’s a project 30 years in the making, and though Scott isn’t at the helm of it, there are still a number of reasons to be excited for a return to those neon-drenched streets of future LA.

Following up on Friday’s awe-inspiring teaser, today brings with it the second full trailer for 2049 to pour over. Coming to us by way of an ongoing Facebook Q&A session – expect more details to surface throughout the course of the day – longtime Blade Runner fans will no doubt revel in the moment when Ryan Gosling’s K crosses paths with a world-weary Rick Deckard, and it isn’t long before the unlikely duo becomes involved in a city-wide conspiracy. This, coupled with the dazzling visual effects, leaves us feeling cautiously optimistic that Denis Villeneuve and Co. will deliver one of 2017’s best sci-fi movies. It is, of course, building on a legacy that stretches back to the early ’80s, and while Blade Runner wasn’t considered a hit at first, the engrossing story of Rick Deckard has since wormed its way into the history books as a visually astute sci-fi masterpiece.

Steeped in the rich DNA of the genre-defining original, Blade Runner 2049 certainly looks the part, dripping with cyberpunk goodness and full to the brim with intriguing mysteries and characters. Boasting a ton of new footage along with glimpses of most of the main cast – which also includes Jared Leto, Dave Bautista and Robin Wright – the new trailer is a visual feast, dropping us back into this gorgeous, fully-realized world and teasing what looks like the year’s most exciting sci-fi flick.

Set some 30 years after the events of Ridley Scott’s seminal classic, Blade Runner 2049 will invite moviegoers back to future Los Angeles on October 6th.
