Former Beatle Paul McCartney Sheds Light On His Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Character

Many critics are currently poking fun at David Beckham’s cameo in King Arthur: Legend of the Sword – the former soccer superstar holds a small guest role in Guy Ritchie’s lavish fantasy reboot – but Becks won’t be the only big-name star to crop up in 2017’s blockbuster season, as Paul McCartney has a part to play in Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

Without a piano or guitar in sight, the musical maestro can instead be seen clutching on to a deck of cards (fortune cards or tarot cards, perhaps?) as he stares down the barrel of the camera. One glance at the IMDb page for Dead Men Tell No Tales will tell you that Paul McCartney is credited as “Jail Guard 2” on Disney’s swashbuckling sequel, so the jury’s still out on how his mysterious pirate fits into proceedings. Word is that he’ll be involved in an “epic battle sequence,” and the fact that McCartney’s Jail Guard 2 hails from the land of the living leads us to believe that he holds no allegiance to Salazar (Javier Bardem) and his undead army.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales pulls into port on May 26th. If King Arthur is about to go down as 2017’s first major box office bomb – early estimates claim Guy Ritchie’s reboot is headed for a $150 million loss – then the opposite is true for Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning’s soft reboot. Indeed, analysts are predicting a relatively strong domestic opening in the ballpark of $100 million, which ought to lend Dead Men Tell No Tales some much-needed momentum as it looks to restore Disney’s Pirates franchise to its former glory.
